西山台地芋掘り

Hervesting Potatoes on Marine Terrace

　室戸岬より西側には、頂上が平らになった階段状の山が広がっています。その地形は地震による大地の隆起と、海の波の作用によって形成されているため「海成段丘」と呼ばれます。
　平らな段丘面を利用して、海成段丘では農業が盛んです。日の光を遮るものがなく、すぐそこの海から潮風が運ばれてくるため、そこで作られる作物はどれも味が濃く、まさに大地の恵みです。なかでも有名なのがさつまいも。期間限定のプログラムですが、秋の収穫時期に合わせて芋掘り収穫体験を行っています。

You will find step-like formed mountains in the western part of Muroto City. This unique topography, called marine terrace, has been formed by land-uplift by earthquakes and wave erosions.
The terraced fields are utilized for farmlands, receiving plenty of sunlights
and sea breeze which makes crops are sweet and thick taste. Sweet potato is one of the most famous crops in marine terrace. When it is harvested in November, you can enjoy potato digging on the terraced-farm land.

プログラム

11月のさつまいも収穫時期に実施。収穫場所である西山台地（室戸市吉良川町）に集合し、地元の方から西山台地の地形や開拓の歴史について案内を受けた後、実際に農家さんから教わりながら芋掘り体験。収穫したさつまいもはその場で焼き芋にして食べ、残りはお持ち帰りいただけます（その時期の収穫量によって、内容は変更の可能性があります）。

The event will be held on November where is the harvesting season of sweet potatoes.
After a local guide briefly tells you a topography and cultivation history of farmlands, a local farmer shows you a way to dig potatoes. You will have baked sweet potatoes made by freshly harvested potatoes. (The activity content is subject to change.)

料　金

時期によって変動します。
※参考料金：前回までの参加料金は、大人(中学生以上) 2,600円、小人1,600円、未就学児無料
