「地球って丸いな」って感じること、普段ありますか？室戸はそういう感覚を海を見ていると得られます。海の方向を見れば、水平線がすぐ見られますが、その水平線って真っ直ぐじゃありません。ちょっと弧を描いているように見えるんです。そっから「なるほど、地球って本当に丸いのかも」と思えてきます。それが特にわかりやすい場所が、室戸の山の上にある「室戸スカイライン展望台」です。見渡す限りの太平洋が目の前に広がっていて、潮の流れや大敷網のしかけも見えます。また、よく見ると室戸岬を中心に西と東で地形が違っていたりもして、おもしろい発見ができる場所です。
