炭の家ほのぼの館
Binchotan Charcoal Museum Honobono

室戸市は漁業の町として知られていますが、その地域の8割以上を山に覆われています。山間部にはウバメガシという室戸の木にも指定されている備長炭作成に適した木が自生しており、室戸市内ではいくつもの土佐備長炭の炭窯があります。ここれは通称「ほのぼの館」と言われ、室戸の佐喜浜町保能母（ほのぼ）という地区にひっそりとあります。炭元であるオーナー手作りの小さな備長炭博物館です。目標は室戸ユネスコ世界ジオパークののぼり旗です。

Muroto has been famous for fishery, but over 80 percent of its area is covered by the mountain where has a plenty of Ubame Oak tree which is a raw material of high quality binchotan charcoal. Therefore, there are many binchotan charcoal kilns in the city. This binchotan charcoal museum is in Honobo area, Sakihama town in Muroto. That's why we call it as "Honobono Kan." (Kan literally means "place" or "center.") The owner is a binchotan charocoal producer and he established this small museum by himself. Its location is a little hard to understand, but you will see Muroto UGGp's flag in front of the building!
